The proposal to introduce Hungary to the MotoGP Championship calendar was made by MotoGP rights holders Dorna Sports S.L. Dorna Sports asked the FIM for the inclusion of a Hungarian Grand Prix event on the 2009 calendar. The FIM was very enthusiastic, as the Hungarian people are big fans of MotoGP. The race would be hosted by the new to built Balatonring Circuit. Unfortunately Hungary was hit by the financial crises. In combination with a harsh winter, the Hungarian MotoGP promoters requested the postponement of the introduction of Hungary to the world of MotoGP. Until so far we do not have any more information concerning this event. According to the official MotoGP website, the plans did not change to start with the Hungarian race in 2010: "All parties involved (Balatonring Zrt., Share Capital, the Hungarian government and Dorna) remain committed to the project of bringing MotoGP to Hungary. The building process will continue with a view to an inaugural race at Balatonring in 2010, and the track has a five-year agreement to host MotoGP races."
