Japan MotoGP is held on the Twin Ring Motegi. Its name already says something about the racetrack. The accommodation has two racetracks for different race classes. The Motegi circuit hosts two larger bike classes and two smaller ones. The track is not only unique because of the two tracks build in one, but also because of this Japanede venue is carved out if seven mountaintops in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The first track has two unique curves and the second one is a banked oval track. Further more there are several other circuits and combinations further down the hill, used for everything from driver training to kart racing.
The circuit was build in 1997 by Honda, eventually they wanted to bring the IndyCar series to Japan and to increase their knowledge of American open-wheel racing. The road course where the MotoGP is held is 4,8 kilometers long (with the two curves) and the banked oval course is 2,4 kilometers long.
Racing on this circuit is really something else. The combinations of straight roads curving into a U-turn and followed up by under passing the oval track are what make this race so exiting. The laps end with fascinating set of corners. First the racers face a difficult down hill braking, accelerating trough another underpass within the oval, ending with a left-right combination before the finish. In this last corner it often happens the positions are changing right before the finish.
